Jyotiraditya Scindia: News

Jyotiraditya Scindia, born on January 1, 1971, is an Indian politician from Madhya Pradesh belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As of 2021, he is the Union Minister of Civil Aviation. He hails from the erstwhile royal house of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Scindia is an alumnus of Harvard University, where he completed his bachelor's in economics. He also holds an MBA from Stanford University. Scindia joined the Congress party in 2001 when his father, Madhavrao Scindia, a sitting Congress MP from Guna, died in a plane crash. Later, in 2002, he successfully contested the Guna Lok Sabha by-election. Between 2007 and 2014, he held several posts at the Centre, including the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, and Minister of State for Power. In the 2019 General Election, Scindia suffered his first loss in nearly 20 years from Guna. In 2020, after a bitter exchange with his party members, Scindia left the Congress to join the BJP. He was subsequently elected to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2020 and went on to become a Union Minister in July 2021 under the Modi government.
